What Inspired Your Business: Peggy Davenport has successfully trained horses for fourteen years and is the founder and creator of The Davenport Method. Born and raised in South East Texas she began training upon getting her own first horse , an un-trained two year old Arabian Filly and built her reputation and experience through working student programs, Internships and cleaning stalls in exchange for riding lessons as well as learning from professionals how to train horses from the ground up and into showing and by breeding, owning , raising and training her own various horses. In the search for hands on experience with horses other than her own she began by paying the feed bill for backyard weekend rider or pasture horses in her area in exchange to be allowed to train and show them under a discipline. She’s dabbled , trained and showed in many different disciplines in both English and Western Riding and has since focused and established herself and honed her skills on certain disciplines in the Equestrian Field. Peggy spent five years in Southern California working at the LAEC and other various Equestrian Establishments as well as training her own horses and turning her passion into her career . Now that she is back in Texas she is back training in her home state once again. I have just begun training with several horses form the Texas Equine Rescue, Habitat For Horses. This rescue has about 350 horses currently needing to be adopted at their main location and at several foster homes through out Texas, Oklahoma and Florida. Not all rescues have been beaten or even starved though that is unfortunately the case with many....there are horses that where " strays" never to be claimed as well as surrendered by people who just couldn’t take care of them or even those who had to move, etc.... Not all rescued horses have "problems" and many are in perfect health and training and ready for a loving home. The average adoption fee is about $600 but if you look at their website ( habitatforhorses.com) you will see much lower that that even. So I have volunteered time to train several horses of theirs , some are fully training and some are just some brush up work, some I am discovering are hiding some talents that just need to be brought out. Hopefully this will help several of these horses get ready to go to new homes...they are all already adoptable but this helps make them "wanted" a little more.
