As I begin to think about interviewing applicants, I was wondring if there is a good interviewing guide that outlines some basic questions to ask. Anyone know where I can find one? |

Regardless of what question you ask, I would encourage you to focus on asking for examples of where candidates have applied skills and abilities, probing for very specific results of their efforts. Lots of candidates have experience |

Are you the one responsible for the hiring decision? Or is there a team involved? If a group is involved, make sure all interviewers are on the same page, know the job responsib., and understand how their role will interface with the new hire. Then, determine req’d skills & what you can (or are willing) to teach. For instance, do they need specific knowledge of your industry? Or, do skills from another translate? For a sales role, they may need specific exp. w/retailers and/or a roster of current contacts. Then, focus on what you want them to have accomplished: Managing a team: Need exp. building a team? If so, ask how they’ve built teams in the past. Managing a team? Ask about mgmt style & challenges faced (& overcome). Growing sales: Exp. growing sales? Ask for specifics. Developing relationships? (How well are they listening & developing a relationship w/you?) Be sure to listen & probe. The questions depend on the job, so start w/a good descrip. If something doesn’t add up in the interview, loop back & clarify. Any red flags you have are areas worthy of exploration. SHRM (Soc. for Human Resource Mgmt) has good tools avail. hello everyone, Thanks so much for those tips and suggestions! "Be sure to listen and probe", that is a great idea as some people like to hear themselves talk in interviews. You need to focus on the person's skills and abilities, but be a bit personable too. I think you get a better sense of who they are, what they can do for your company and they come across more naturally. Well, in a perfect world, I guess that can cut through some of the falsehoods that seem to be inevitable in an interview situation. horses for sale |
