Do you have recommendations on how large a budget a site should set to see reasonable return on its investment, provided you follow the key points in the article? Intuit offers a service? Is that a reasonable approach for a first-timer with a limited budget? |

Marcia25, I recommend you try directly with Google. In fact, the majority of companies that offer PPC services end up summiting your Adds to Google. So, why not use Google AddWords directly? In the other hand, consider this services as part of your marketing budget. If you don't have a marketing budget the recommendation for small business is a 3%-5% of your gross sales. You can start with a small budget and see how it goes. Google Adwords recommend you start with $50 per month. But you could try with less. There is no magic number is this. |

HI, I would first like to answer this first: ERinfoTech said, "In fact, the majority of companies that offer PPC services end up summiting your Adds to Google. So, why not use Google AddWords directly?" PPC services or anyone can't submit the Google ads to aywhere else, I am afraid, it has to go to Google. Now, you must have heard of Patent solicitors, Company formation advisors etc. etc. Now you can very well file your own patent or submit docs to form your own company. BUt these guys are prffessionals. They do it day in day out. A PPC campaign also requires professinal help if you are a commercial organisation. Of course, you can do it yourself, but at your own expense. There are some technical issues you need to fully understand to get any positive result from PPC. Remember that your AD has to perform well, otherwise it'll go down in ranks and you'll have to pay well and if it really sucks Googe will get rid of it, and it'll be marked in your Google Adwprds account forever. The reports and e-books can really help you to understand the program and make it easier to work with an external agency. -Hersh http://hershbhardwaj.blgspot.com |

I also work in the PPC arena and the service that I provide my customers is not just sending their ad to Google, which of course I do. My clients can't afford to spend all day monitoring and optimizing their campaigns. Additionally, most small business owners don't have the time to spend learning one more new system. I provide a valuable service because it generates traffic and saves time. |

You should check out www.aditall.com. I just started working for the company and I’m not trying to advertise : ) but it seems to be exactly what you’re looking for. The platform makes the creation and distribution of video ads extremely quick and simple. On top of that, it’s relatively inexpensive. If you’re at all interested let me know! You can reach me through email at Allison@aditall.com. |

Dear Marcia, Though companies often submit your ads to Google, you must keep in mind that they also know what they are doing. Trying to handle your own marketing campaign can be a difficult task for a newbie. I was in the same boat; but, I decided to be smart about my investment and time. I hired a PPC management company called ppcgeeks.net. I am very happy with my decision. I hope you find my advice useful and good luck with your venture |

Thanks to everyone who responded. I've been pretty busy with other things, but I am reading a couple of books on Adwords and trying to learn more before I initiate a campaign. I am also taking workshops to improve my website before I spend to drive traffic to it. I will budget a small amount initially for Adwords campaigns. I also am looking to place some classified ads with other ezines. I would be interested in hearing the results that other small business owners have experienced. What was your ROI like for Adwords campaigns in the past. Also did you do any testing? How did that work out? I am trying to educate myself first before wading into these waters. Thanks again. I've been using pay per click advertising for many years. I wouldn't keep using PPC ads if they didn't work. You are doing the right thing by learning as much as you can before you start. Even if you choose to have a company manage your campaigns for you, you'll be able to talk more intelligibly with whoever you work with and be better able to understand what they tell you and why they do or suggest doing various things. Testing ads is absolutely essential and should be something ongoing. PPC ads are just like direct mail in that respect (and in a lot of other ways, too.) As the article mentioned above suggests, you should bid low to start -but not so low that your ads don't appear at all. $50 to $100 - depending on what you sell - would be a good amount to start your campaign with. If you see you get sales from that, then you inch up your spending and see the results each step along the way. You do want to be on the first page of search results but don't want to be in the top 3 ads until you know whether people who click on your ads will actually buy (ie, convert) after they reach your site. One other quick tip: besides putting the search phrase in the headline of the ad, be sure the page you point to makes what you advertised immediately visible. --Janet |

I've been using Google ads for several months now, and you can learn from my mistakes. It really does pay to take the time to create a unique ad for every keyword, research long keyword strings and monitor your results daily. I have a very competitive market (lingerie) and many of the people who click on my ads are just looking at the pictures. So using the word "lingerie" is a lose-lose situation...too many non-buyers and way too much competition for the top spot. Try choosing one item, or in your case, one service, and really focus on long keyword strings, write ads with those keywords in them and don't be afraid to dump a campaign that isn't working. |
